Four members of a family from Odisha were brutally murdered by unknown miscreants in Durg district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh, police said.

The incident took place at Tandanbadi village on Thursday midnight.

According to sources, the deceased have been identified as Bholanath Yadav, his wife, their 12-year-old son Pramod and seven-year-old daughter Mukta.

While police recovered the body of Bholanath from his house, bodies of his wife and children were found in a farmland in a pool of blood. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state.

Police, meanwhile, have started investigation into the case. Past rivalry is suspected to be the reason behind the gruesome killing.

Bholanath who is a resident of Bolangir district in Odisha has been residing in Durg district for last 10 years. He had purchased a piece of land and was growing vegetables to eke out a living.

Durg Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said, “We suspect the miscreants killed the entire family members in the dead of the night. However, the reason behind the dreadful killing is yet to be established. The accused will be identified and arrested soon."
