Former business partner of late Odisha Minister Naba Das arrested in gambling racket

In a major breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into illegal gambling activities, police have arrested Govind Singhania, a former business associate of late Odisha Health Minister Naba Das. Singhania was arrested from Raipur in Chhattisgarh and the development has raised several eyebrows due to his past connections with influential circles.

What Led To Singhania’s Arrest?

The development came after a police team initially conducted a raid on April 16 in the Jhareshwar Temple area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jharsuguda Town Police Station.

 Acting on a tip-off about a gambling den operating in the area, police launched a swift operation, during which several individuals were caught red-handed and taken into custody.

According to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jharsuguda, the arrested individuals provided crucial leads during interrogation, which pointed to a wider network of individuals involved in organizing and operating illegal gambling activities. Among those names, Govind Singhania emerged as a key suspect and allegedly one of the masterminds behind the racket.

Singhania, who was once considered a close business partner of the late minister Nab Das, was traced to Raipur based on the information gathered during the investigation. A special team was dispatched, and he was successfully apprehended and brought to Odisha. After his arrest, he was produced before a local court.

Jharsuguda SDPO, Umashankar Singh said, “During investigation of the case, we found the involvement of Govind Singhania. On getting necessary evidence, we have arrested and produced him before court. Further investigation in connection with the case is underway.”

Police officials have confirmed that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the gambling network and other individuals potentially involved. Authorities are also examining whether any political or financial connections played a role in shielding the operations.

The arrest of a person with such close ties to a prominent political figure has added a layer of intrigue to the case, with many now watching closely for further revelations in the coming days.
