Five persons impersonating as Maoists were arrested on charges of torching a truck engaged in construction work in Kalyansingpur block of Rayagada district on January 22.

The accused identified as Gopal Mandia of Handipadu village, Bali Majhi of Kanjangmandi, Santash Ray of Dudukabahal and Rampadu Simanchal Majhi and Jayant Nayak of Chikiti village in Kalyansingpur were produced in a court in Rayagada on Saturday, which remanded them to judicial custody.

As per reports, a team of Kalyansingpur Police officials along with Rayagada Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dibyajyoti Das and Inspector-in-charge Sukma Hansda conducted raids at several places and nabbed the five persons.

Earlier on January 22, the five youths allegedly torched a truck at the road construction site at Budaguda village under Kalyansingpur Police limits of the district. They also put up posters bearing the name of Maoists at the construction site and also near Sadar Tehsil office and SBI branch in the area. 

A complaint in this regard was earlier lodged at the Kalyansingpur Police Station by the construction company following which the Rayagada SDPO had started an investigation into the matter.
