Press conference by Twin City Police Commissioner
In the dramatic shooting incident which occurred late Friday night near Damana Chhak in Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar that left a bar bouncer injured, the Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested two more accused involved in the firing incident. With this, the total number of arrests made in the firing case reached 13 on Monday.
The mastermind behind the attack, Dadhivaman Jena alias Dadhi, and his associate Krushnachandra Barik alias Kanha have been arrested by the Chandrasekharpur Police.
Twin City Police S.Dev Datta Singh informed that two more accused, who were absconding after the incident, have been arrested today. It was Dadhi who had fired upon the bouncer. The firearm used in the incident has also been seized.
“Our further investigation is underway. Our crackdown and surveillance on criminals and potential anti-socials is also on,” said the Police Commissioner.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded after a heated scuffle broke out inside the bar involving the bouncer and a group of youths after the former refused to entertain them as it was closing time for the bar. Following the altercation, the youths left the premises in frustration. However, they allegedly returned later on two motorcycles, launching a sudden and violent attack. Dadhi, along with three accomplices, opened fire outside the bar, discharging at least six rounds.
The police launched a swift investigation and arrested 11 individuals in connection with the case yesterday. Among them are the two prime accused, Dadhi and Kanha, both of whom have a criminal history. Dadhi is already involved in two cases in Bhubaneswar and one in Cuttack, while Kanha faces four separate cases.
Despite the arrests, two of the accused are still on the run. Police are continuing efforts to trace and apprehend them. The incident has sparked concerns over rising criminal activities in the city and the apparent ease with which firearms are being used in public places.
Senior officials have stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved, and efforts are on to determine if the accused are linked to any larger criminal network operating in the region. Meanwhile, the injured bouncer is undergoing treatment and is reported to be out of danger.
This incident has once again brought to light the growing threat of organized crime in urban areas and has sparked calls for stricter regulation of bars and clubs operating in the city.
