Police seize cracker raw materials and explosives

A day after a person died under mysterious circumstances following a blast inside a house at VSS Nagar area in Bhubaneswar, Commissionerate Police on Tuesday conducted a detailed examination of the spot.

As per sources, huge quantity of explosive has been seized from the house of the deceased identified as Sibanad. A team of senior police officials, forensic experts and bomb squad conducted a detailed examination and reportedly seized explosives from the spot.

Now, question remains whether the deceased was manufacturing firecrackers or bombs? Reportedly, police have also recovered several raw materials used for manufacturing firecrackers. However, the deceased Sibanand did not have any licence for preparing crackers and it is suspected that he was illegally carrying out such activities.

ACP Sanjeev Satpathy said, "Preliminary inquiry said that the deceased was preparing crackers at around 7 pm yesterday when it went off accidentally. He later succumbed to injuries."

Satpathy said as several explosives like Potassium Nitrate among others have been seized, it will be diffused by bomb squad.

"A lot of raw materials for cracker manufacturing have been seized, and the deceased had set up the unit illegally. A case has been registered and probe is underway to ascertain from where the gun powder was procured and to whom it would had been delivered," Satpathy added.
