At a time when the country is in the grip of Covid-19 pandemic, a person was arrested from Nayagarh district for running an illegal clinic and treating patients without the requisite qualification or license under the Clinical Establishment Act.

The accused, identified as Biswanath Ghadei, was allegedly running the clinic in the name of Kalyani Hospital at Chayapatha lane even though he didn't have an MBBS degree.

The matter came to light after a special team led by Dr. Santosh Nayak conducted a raid on the clinic following directions from the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO).

During verification it was found that Ghadei was not a doctor and was running the clinic illegally as his unit was not registered under the Clinical Establishment Act. The documents produced by him were also found to be forged, police said.

“The accused was running the clinic illegally. Based on the request of health officials, we had conducted a joint raid. During verification, it was found that person did not have MBBS degree. His hospital was also not registered under the Clinical Establishment Act,” said Nayagarh SDPO, Suvendu Sinha.

According to Sinha, a case was registered based on the written complaint filed by the health department officials and the accused was arrested. The accused has been sent on judicial custody after his bail petition was rejected.
