An engineering girl student has allegedly been sold in Madhya Pradesh. The matter came to the fore after the victim filed a complaint with Manamunda police station in this regard on Wednesday. 

According to the complainant, who belongs to Manamunda area of Boudh district, she had gone to Jharsuguda district in search of a job when she happened to meet Ganesh Kumbhar, a resident of Khialipali village. Ganesh pursued the girl to go to Madhya Pradesh with him. Later, he sold her to one Joshobant Singh at Rs 3 lakh. Jasobant solemnised her marriage with his son.”

When the engineering student raised her voice against the injustice meted out to her, Jasobant tortured her mentally and physically apart from threatening to kill her. The accused reportedly kept physical relationship with the girl. Though the complainant came back to Odisha, she forgot to bring her important documents and ATM card. She urged Jasobant to return her documents but in vain.

Police, meanwhile, arrested the accused based on a complaint filed by the victim.

The girl said, “Ganesh Kumbhar took me to his relatives’ house and sold me to Jasobant who forcibly solemnised my marriage with his son Akash Singh. When I asked the reason behind keeping me confined in a room, Jasobant said we have given money to Ganesh for you. So we are free to do anything to you.”
