Encounter in Cuttack: Notorious criminal involved in dacoity injured

Commissionerate Police on Friday night arrested notorious criminal Manoj Moharana after an encounter near Uttamapur area under Sadar Police limits. The accused has sustained bullet injury on his leg and has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

A key member of the Tapu gang, Manoj was wanted in connection with the recent dacoity case at Kandarpur area in which a businessman was looted of valuables. As the incident had occurred ahead of the Durga puja, concerns were expressed by the local residents over the existing security measures by police.

Subsequently, the Commissionerate Police formed special teams and were looking for the criminals involved in the dacoity case. On getting information, a police team led by the Inspector-In-Charge of Kandarpur Police Station intercepted Manoj near Uttamapur.

On seeing the police team, Manoj opened fire and was injured after the cops retaliated, said Additional DCP Anil Mishra. Mishra said that Manoj is involved several criminal activities and further investigation in this connection is underway.
