In yet another horrifying incident, an elderly woman was brutally murdered on suspicion of practicing ‘witchcraft’ at Podagoda village under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district on late Thursday night.

The decreased has been identified as Champa Hembram, 75.

According to sources, Champa used to stay separately from her family. Like any other day, she had her dinner with her family members and went to her house to sleep. The family members spotted her blood-soaked body on Friday morning. They immediately informed the police about the incident.

A team from Jashipur police station reached the spot and launched an investigation.

Since a stone with blood stains was found near the crime spot, it is suspected that she was stoned to death.

Police said from the discussions they had with the neighbours they figured it out that children and elderly persons of the village had continuously been falling ill and the villagers had ascribed it to Champa’s black magic.

It is too early to say anything about the incident. We are waiting for the scientific team’s investigation report and post mortem report to reach any conclusion, police said.

In another shocking incident reported from the same district, a man beheaded his wife at Hatigada village under Thakurmunda police limits on Friday.

According to a source, the accused buried the torso and head of her wife in a nearby cow shed after beheading her with a billhook. Later, he surrendered at the Thakurmunda police station.
