Shruti Panigrahi, daughter of Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi, was subjected to marathon questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Bhubaneswar on Friday.

The agency quizzed her for about six hours in connection with money laundering cases filed against Abhay Kant Pathak and his son Akash.

According to a source, during the interrogation of the Pathak father-son duo, the ED detected money was deposited in Shruti’s bank account on more than one occasion. Following this, she came under the scanner of ED.

She is learnt have been asked questions surrounding her knowledge about the transactions and how she was involved in the entire episode. 

It is pertinent to mention here that the Gopalpur MLA was arrested on charges of forgery, criminal conspiracy and other cyber offences on December 3, 2020. Prior to this, an investigation had revealed  that he had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as a public servant from May 24, 2009 to November 30, 2020. He was found in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 5,05,04,656. 

Following his arrest, he was expelled from the BJD. On June 12, 2021, he was released from the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar after the Orissa High Court granted him bail in connection with the ‘TATA Motors job fraud’ case registered at the Golanthara police station in Ganjam district.
