A day after the seizure of an illicit soft-drink manufacturing unit in Cuttack's Jagatpur area, Malgodown police on Saturday busted duplicate sauce manufacturing units in Cuttack and Barang.
Acting on a tip-off a special team of Commissionerate Police launched a raid near Malgodown area and seized a huge cache of duplicate sauce bottles with stickers of different reputed brands in circulation.
Following the seizure of duplicate sauce bottles, the police team digging deep into the matter traced the origin of production of the duplicate sauce and raided the factory in Barang in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
One person has been detained in this connection, informed police source.
"We called up the Food Inspector for testing the quality of the sauce. After detecting the poor quality of the products we collected the samples. We have sealed the shop and the factory. Further investigation into the matter is on. We will trace the involvement of persons in this matter and after finding them will carry on the legal proceedings," said Satya Narayan Muduli, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cuttack.
Cuttack has emerged as a hub for manufacturing duplicate consumable products including ghee, edible oil, spices, turmeric, sauce, tobacco and much more products. Questions have been raised that despite the raids and seizures, how people are daring to continue their illegal business throwing a challenge to the police and administration.
