A fake soft drink manufacturing unit was busted in Cuttack on Friday.

The unit was busted at Jagatpur area following a joint raid by a team of officials of the health wing of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Jagatpur Police.

As per initial reports, logos/labels of several reputed companies have been seized from the spot.

Jitendra Sahu, the owner of the unit has been detained. "I have food license for the unit which was earlier operating from a different area. We were preparing soft drinks like soda and other products," said Sahu.

Senior official of Commissionerate Police said, “We had raided the unit after getting some complaints. We found that several soft drinks were being manufactured using sugar and other chemicals without guidance of experts and necessary permission.”

It is pertinent to mention here that several units engaged in the manufacturing of adulterated food items were busted in different parts of Cuttack city in the recent past.

On April 19, a fake detergent manufacturing unit in Cuttack was busted by Malgodown police. 

Later, police had raided Brahmanpada village under Tangi police limits area from where the fake detergent unit was operating.

In August 2021, the joint enforcement squad of Commissionerate Police and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) had busted a fake Gutkha manufacturing unit in the city.

Over 14 food adulteration units were detected in just two months time in 2021 and goods and property worth Rs 4,40,10,000 were seized from the illegal units.
