The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested two persons on the charges of selling fake or duplicate water purifier parts in the name of a reputed brand in Cuttack. One of the accused, identified as Kanhu Charan, was allegedly running the duplicate products racket from a rented house at Badambadi area.

On getting credible inputs, a team of officials from Badambadi police station raided the unit and seized huge stock of substandard water purifier parts.

ACP Amarendra Panda said, the accused using the labels, hologram and other packaging material of the reputed brand were actually selling fake products. The spurious products or purifier parts and other RO consumable kits fraudulently carrying the name of the premium brand might pose serious health hazards.

Panda said that the raids were conducted at three places in Cuttack.

“The Inspector-in-charge of Badambadi police station got information about the duplicate assembling unit and raided the place. During the raid it was found that the fake products were sold in the name of a branded company,” said Panda.

Senior police officials said that the accused used to purchase duplicate products from different parts of the country and used to sell them after pasting labels and other packing material in the name of the premium brand. Several shop owners were also purchasing such fake purifier products with the motive to make more money.

It is the customers who are being cheated as they are paying heavy price for the duplicate products, believing them to be genuine, added Panda.
