The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested two drug peddlers from Keshura area under Bhubaneswar’s Sahid Nagar police limits.

The peddlers have been identified as Sakul Sheikh and Abdul Saeedul Suleiman from Murshidabad area in West Bengal.

Following a tip off, the police had put up a barricade at Keshura and nabbed the peddlers once they tried to cross it.

The police have recovered brown sugar weighing 32 gm, cash of Rs 2,500, mobile phones and a scooter from their possession.

Informing about the contraband seizure, Sanjeev Satapathy, ACP, Zone-5, said, “The Crime unit of Commissionerate Police and the staff of Sahid Nagar Police station received a tip off about the drug peddlers. The police team put up a check gate at Keshura chhak and they were nabbed when they approached.”

“We are verifying their criminal antecedents to ascertain if they were involved in other crimes. Further probe will help identify other persons involved in this racket and the source of the substance,” Satapathy added.

Recently, the STF had seized brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore and arrested a drug peddler in this connection from Nayagarh district. The drugs peddler, identified as Hara Prasad Prusty, was arrested from Narayani Pitha near Kantilo under Fategarh Police Station on January 9. Brown sugar weighing 1.190 kg was seized from his possession.
