Dreaded criminal injured in police encounter in Salepur

Notorious criminal Sushant Sahu was caught following an encounter in Salepur, Nischintakoili police informed on Sunday. Senior Police officials informed that Sahu alias Lipu along with one of his associate was planning for a dacoity when a police team raided Asureswar playground last night.

On seeing the police team, the accused fired two rounds in a bid to escape from the spot. However, Sahu was injured in the retaliatory firing by police.

Sahu, who sustained a bullet injury on his left leg, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition is said to be stable.

Police sources said that more than 54 criminal cases are pending against Sahu at various police stations. However, Sahu’s associate is absconding after the encounter spot.

“A police team was engaged in patrolling when they got information that some criminals had assembled near the playground with a motive to plan for a dacoity. When the police team reached the spot, the accused opened fire. Later, he sustained a bullet injury in firing by police,” said a senior police official.

Some police personnel have also sustained minor injuries in the encounter. One mobile phone, a firearm and some other articles have been seized from the criminal, police said.
