Domestic Dispute Turns Violent; Puri Man Stabs Mother-In-Law To Death, Consumes Poison

In a shocking incident, a man stabbed his mother-in-law to death before consuming poison himself in a bid to commit suicide at Banamali Nagar under Puri’s Baselisahi Police limits on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as 50 years old Tilottama Kar, a resident of Banamali Nagar who succumbed to the stabs wounds inflicted by her son-in-law, identified as Shaktidhar Dash.

As per reports, Shaktidhar had long-standing domestic feud with his wife Pushpanjali. She had recently moved to her mother’s place following frequent quarrels at home.

Sources said, Shaktidhar had been pressurising and threatening Tilottama to let her daughter come to his place. But neither Pushpanjali nor was Tilotama in a mood for any compromise.

Infuriated at the repeated refusal by the mother-daughter, Shaktidhar today stabbed Tilottama with a sharp weapon and consumed poison immediately afterwards in a bid to commit suicide.

Both Tilottama and Shaktidhar were rushed to the District Head Quarters Hospital in Puri where doctors pronounced the former dead while Shaktidhar is undergoing treatment at present.

Narrating the incident, Puspanjali said, “Shakti was continuously threatening us with dire consequences. However, I never thought he would turn so violent and kill my mother. I was in the toilet when my mother was having a conversation with him. When I came back I saw my mother lying in a pool of blood.”

Additional SP of Puri, Mihir Panda said, “We have received complaint about a man having stabbed his mother-in-law to death. The accused attempted suicide by consuming poison. He is currently admitted to the medicine ward of the DHH. We will take stringent action against the accused as per the law.”
