The Odisha police on Saturday claimed to have solved the murder mystery of a youth whose body was found at Chaitanya Gosein Mutt in Gondia of Dhenkanal district last week.

Raising the curtains over the murder case, the police claimed that the Mutt Mahant killed the youth in a fit of rage following heated arguments.

As per the police, on February 9, the Mutt Mahant, Dasrath, took up a quarrel with Uddhav, the deceased, after the latter entered the Mutt premises in an inebriated condition with slippers on his feet. After sometime, the quarrel intensified and Dasrath lost his cool, following which he hit Uddhav's head with an iron blowpipe.

During interrogation, Dasrath admitted to killing Uddhav, said police.

"Uddhav was drunk and entered into the mutt premises riding his bike. Annoyed over the defiance, Dasrath asked him about such behaviour. Later, the duo argued over the matter which further intensified and they got engaged in a small fight. While Dasrath pelted stones at Uddhav, the latter Uddhav hit him with bare hands. Afterwards, Dasrath hit Uddhav with the iron blowpipe on the head," said Bishnu Charan Barik, Inspector-in-Charge of Gondia Police Station.

Moreover, the police informed that the accused (Dasrath) had earlier killed his wife in 2011 and went underground. Later, he had changed his identity and disguised himself as a saint (baba). He then started living at Chaitanya mutt near Gondia temple. The police dug out his past during interrogation.

Dasrath was arrested and forwarded to court on Saturday after he admitted to having committed the crime.
