A gang of at least five unidentified dacoits reportedly looted gold ornaments and cash from the residence of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Bhotapada area under Mancheswar police limits of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

As per reports, the armed dacoit gang barged into the house of Dinabandhu Das, the Bhubaneswar district organization secretary of BJP, in Bhotapada area late last night and attacked his family members with sharp weapons. They held Das on gunpoint and then allegedly thrashed all the family members before decamping with around Rs 3.2 lakh cash, Jewelries and other valuables worth several lakhs.

Das’ wife has sustained critical injuries in the attack, reports stated.

“Around 1 am, five miscreants broke into the house and attacked us. They held me hostage on gunpoint and used a knife to attack my wife who sustained critical injuries. They then took away the ornaments we were wearing and robbed other valuables from the locker.” said Das.

Suspecting the attack could be a handiwork of political rivalries, his wife said, “The miscreants were wearing mask and helmets, thus it was not possible to identify them. They forcefully entered the house and attacked me with an iron rod. Then they took out a revolver and pointed towards my husband. While they were brutally assaulting us up, one of them warned me that we are not safe here. ”

Meanwhile, police are investigating from various angles to identify the miscreants. A case of dacoity has been registered by the Mancheswar police and a hunt has also been launched to nab the culprits.

As per preliminary reports, the miscreants involved in the daring dacoity appeared to be teenagers.
