In a major achievement, Sambalpur Police arrested 12 members of a dacoit gang following an encounter. In the exchange of fire, one member of the gang sustained bullet injuries. 

The injured gang member has been identified as a resident of Laxmipur in Koraput. 

According to reports, the gang was involved in a loot case reported from Jayantpur under Sadar police limits in Sambalpur. The police had launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raids at places near Ken Ghati. Seeing the police, the miscreants opened fire at the police team. In retaliation, policemen also opened fire. In the exchange of fire, one miscreant was injured.

Subsequently, all 12 members of the gang were arrested.

The police seized two country-made pistols, over Rs 3 lakh in cash, and two sharp weapons.  

The members are from areas like Koraput, Rayagada, and Andhra Pradesh. 

“Their modus operandi was to come in train and conduct recce before executing their plan,” said Sambalpur SP, Mukesh Bhamoo.
