The Daragha Bazaar Police in Cuttack arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 268 grams of brown sugar from their possession on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Bapi, Vivekanand Jena and Gopinath Patra, all belonging to the Cuttack district.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the jail ground in Cuttack and nabbed the peddlers. Other than the illegal substance, the police have also recovered cash, amounting to Rs 1.28 Lakh, four cellular phones and two bikes from the accused.

As per reports, the seized contraband has a market value of approximately Rs 26 Lakh.

Speaking to the reporters, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Cuttack, Prateek Singh said, "A total of 4.646 Kg brown sugar worth Rs 4.61 Crore has been busted by the Cuttack Police in last two years. 30 persons have been arrested during this time too."

Earlier on September 14, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch had seized 1.025 kg brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore from Rasulgarh area in Bhubaneswar and arrested two inter-state drug peddlers.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF raided Rasulgarh area and seized the contraband along with other incriminating materials from the two traders hailing from North 24 Pargana in West Bengal.
