In a scene straight out of a Bollywood film, police chased a van occupied by the liquor mafia for some time before intercepting it in Barang area of Cuttack district.

According to sources, during the usual night patrolling in Barang area on Thuirsday, the Cuttack excise department cops saw an SUV coming towards them suspiciously. They tried to wave down the van. Seeing the cops, the miscreants fled from the spot.

Soon, the excise department officials chased the van. The racing between the two vans continued for some time. Finally, the cops made a head-on-collision to stop the van of the liquor smugglers.

The cops arrested two accused who were inside the vehicle and seized about 1,000 litres of country liquor from the vehicle.

Informing about the incident, district Excise superintendent Debasis Patel said the raids would be intensified in the coming days.

“During the usual night patrolling, they spotted a white SUV coming from the opposite direction in a suspicious manner. They (the cops) tried to stop the vehicle. Instead of stopping at the spot, the miscreants put the vehicle into reverse gear and sped away from the spot. Our cops chased them and arrested two occupants who are residents of Athagrah area. They also seized 1040 litres of liquor from the vehicle,” informed Patel.
