Couple hangs self in Bhubaneswar; wife dies, man battling for life

A young couple allegedly hanged themselves inside their house in Siddhi Vinayak Apartment under Laxmisagar police limits in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

While the woman died, her husband was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to a private hospital.

They have been identified as Sanjana Periwal and her husband Sanjay Periwal, who runs a saree shop.

“The woman breathed her last today while her husband has been battling for life. Family dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the extreme step. Probe is on,” informed Laxmisagar IIC Om Prakash Mohanty. 

According to reports, the couple was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the house. The incident took place when their son and daughter had gone to school.

On being informed, Laxmisagar police reached the spot, recovered the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation.

The reason behind their extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
