A couple on Wednesday evening was found dead with their throats slit in an open field near their poultry farm at Majhi Sahi village in Sabira panchayat under Soro Police limits of Balasore district.

According to sources, prima facie, it is a case of brutal murder. On being informed, the local police rushed to the village and launched a probe into the incident. However, the reason behind the deaths is yet to be ascertained.

The deceased couple has been identified as Raghunath Behera and his wife Prabhati Behera.

According to villagers, the couple owns a fish and chicken farm, a few kilometers away from the village. As usual, the couple after dinner had gone to the farm to check on their chicken and fish.

However, locals later spotted them lying dead with their throats slit and alerted the cops. Police have seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem while a further investigation is on.

“We came here after learning about the incident. We are not sure as to what led to such an incident. We came here only to find both of them lying dead in a pool of blood with their throats slits. Both of them were very good persons and were cordial with everyone in the village,” a local resident said.

Another resident said, “We came here after learning that the couple was brutally murdered and their bodies were dumped here. They used to sleep here, as they own this fish and chicken farm. Both of their throats were slit and it is a confirmed case of murder. But, the reason is yet to be ascertained.”
