Conviction After 38 years: Ex-executive engineer sent behind bars for DA case in 1984
The Court of Special Judge in Bhubaneswar has awarded two years rigorous imprisonment to an ex-executive engineer after convicting him in a 38-year-old DA case.
The former engineer Gangadhar Sahoo posted at Command Area Development Agency (CADA I), Bhubaneswar, has been convicted in a disproportionate assets (DA) case registered in 1984 on Wednesday.
The court announced the quantum of punishment while hearing the Cuttack Vigilance P.S.Case No-10 dated 09/03/1984 under section 5(2) r/w 5(1)(e) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 registered against Sahoo for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs 4,06,220.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Sahoo, failing which he would undergo rigours imprisonment for a period of another three months.
Notably, the then DSP of Vigilance, Cuttack Division, B B Mohapatra had investigated the case. Public Prosecutor of the Special Court, Bhubaneswar, Ajit Kumar Pattnaik conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
