Prompt intervention and investigation by Balasore Police helped an abducted contractor to reunite with his family within 24 hours of the crime. The contractor, Sibanand Patra, was allegedly abducted by a person who had demanded a ransom of Rs 40 lakh for his release.

The contractor’s wife Nirabala had even paid Rs 5 lakh to the abductor and also handed cheques for the remaining amount, police said.

Balasore SP Sagarika Nath informed that the contractor’s wife had lodged a complaint with Talsari Police regarding the kidnapping. Based on the intelligence input that the contractor was abducted in a red colour car, two small teams were formed.

One team went to Mayurbhanj while another team conducted the investigation in Balasore.

“We have rescued the contractor within 24 hours. A ransom of Rs 40 lakh was demanded and the victim’s family had also paid Rs 5 lakh. We have recovered the cheques and Rs 5 lakh from the accused,” said Nath.

According to Nath, it appears to be a case related to some business rivalry, further investigation in connection with the incident is on.
