Accusing the Odisha government of tampering with evidence in the Mamita Meher murder case investigation, senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das has warned that the party will take to streets with a ‘Mamita Rath’ if the details of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra’s tour and whereabouts in the run up to the Kalahandi lady teacher’s killing was not made public.

“Though Mamita went missing on October 8, MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra never uttered a word about her neither did he visit the crime spot. He came out of the shell only on October 22 and demanded us for evidence about his involvement in the case. But if the government itself is not providing us information under RTI, how are we supposed to get it,” asked Das while addressing reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.

Das warned that if the details of Dibyashankar’s tours and whereabouts from October 1 to 22 was not made public, then the Congress party will take to streets and roll out a Mamita Rath seeking justice for the slain lady teacher.

Das said though he had sought information through RTI on Dibyashankar’s tour itinerary before and after Mamita Meher’s was done to death from the Kalahandi SP, the latter never released the information citing security concerns.

“After getting rejection from the SP, I went to the Collector seeking the same information. But I could get details of only four days.” Das said.

Mamita Meher went missing from Sunshine school at Mahaling in Kalahandi on October 8, 2021. After some days, her charred body remains was recovered from an under construction stadium by the police. As per the allegations of her father, Minister Mishra was a frequent visitor to the school and had close connections with the prime accused, Gobinda Sahu who has been charged with the murder.
