Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Monday claimed a major breakthrough by arresting four members of the notorious ‘Bawaria gang’ (a nomadic clan from Uttar Pradesh).

Bhubaneswar DCP, Prateek Singh informed that 16 gold chains weighing 200 grams, and two motorcycles bearing Delhi registration numbers have been recovered from their possession.

According to Singh, the gang was involved in at least 28 cases in different parts of the state, including Cuttack, Cuttack Rural, Puri, Khorda, and Bhadrak districts.

“This gang used to come to various districts and was involved in a series of snatching and other crimes. After committing the crime, they used to return to their native places,” said Singh.

Singh further informed that a special team was tracking them even though the members were frequently changing their locations.

“Our teams followed them after knowing that they had visited Puri and committed some crime. The gang members used to stay in lodges and used to keep their bikes in various parking lots,” Singh added.
