Black Jacket Gang
After unleashing terror on Bhubaneswar streets, the ‘black jacket gang’ was finally busted by the Commissionerate Police on Monday after arrest of four of its members. The accused mostly used to snatch gold ornaments and other valuables in Bhubaneswar and other districts by wearing black jackets.
More than 10 cases are registered against three arrested accused. 30 stolen gold chains and three bikes have been recovered from their possession. After loot, the criminals used to mortgage the gold ornaments for cash in the name of relatives, informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.

The arrest of the black jacket gang members is said to be a major success for the Commissionerate Police ahead of the festive season. Not only the black jacket gang, similar gangs involved in petty crimes including chain snatching incidents are also active in Bhubaneswar.
“Be it day or night, a woman cannot feel safe. As Durga puja is approaching, everybody wants to enjoy puja and buy articles including gold. We haven’t seen any police patrolling here,” said Anuradha Das, a local resident.
