The Inspector-in-Charge of Nilagiri Police Station was on Friday transferred to the Balasore district police headquarters amid the raging controversy over shackling of a journalist to a hospital bed after his arrest in a case in the district.

IIC Droupadi Das along with the investigation officer of the case, Subarna Behera, have both been transferred and attached to the district police headquarters till the completion of probe, informed Eastern Range Inspector General (IG), Police, Narasingha Bhol.

Bhol has informed that the matter has been taken very seriously and a DSP rank officer has been assigned charge of the probe. One Havildar has already been placed under suspension.

As per reports available, the journalist, accused of assaulting a home guard was arrested by the police recently. He was admitted to hospital in Balasore on Wednesday after suffering deterioration in health condition.

However, much to the shock of all, the scribe was later found tied to the hospital bed with a chain. The matter came to fore after a picture of the journalist went viral on social media triggering widespread condemnation from all around.
