An elderly woman was allegedly thrashed by her daughter-in-law and the latter's family at her residence in Sailashree Vihar area of Bhubaneswar over a domestic dispute on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Purnima Mohanty. The brutal act was captured in a CCTV camera installed nearby.
According to reports, Purnima’s son Sandip had a conflict with her wife few days after their marriage following which she left her in-laws and returned back to her parents.

Sandip recently served a legal notice to her wife to bring an end to the marital discord between them.
However, the family members of the accused reacted sharply over the development and they allegedly broke into
Sandip’s house and attacked his mother with a sharp weapon leaving her seriously injured. She has been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.
“They barged into our house and attacked all our family members. They hurled abuses and also hit my head with a sharp weapon,” said Purnima.
Meanwhile, Sandip's family has lodged a complaint at Chandrasekharpur police station. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
