The Quick Action Team (QAT) of Odisha Police on Monday seized brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakh from the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Both the seller and buyer of the contraband consignment have been arrested. While the seller hails from Balasore district, the buyer is a resident of Kedarpalli of Bhubaneswar.
Apart from the contraband, the QAT seized two vehicles. A press identity card was also seized from the vehicle of the buyer.
Earlier this month, the Commissionerate Police had seized around 273 grams of brown sugar and arrested two peddlers during a raid at Hi-Tech square in Bhubaneswar.
It is worth mentioning here that the Odisha police, under the special drive, code named, ‘White Spider’, have seized 2kg 223 grams of brown sugar in the last three and half months.
As many as 38 drug peddlers have been arrested in this connection and a total of 16 cases under the NDPS act have been registered against them. Apart from a total of Rs 4,81,270 in cash, two bikes, 15 mobile phones and other incriminating materials have been seized from their possession.
Similarly, the STF has seized more than 43 kg of brown sugar and more than 86 quintals of ganja through special drives against narcotics since 2020. More than 100 drug peddlers have been arrested in this connection.
