Bhadrak: A special intelligence team of Excise department seized 138 gms of brown sugar and 15 liters of country liquor from two youths near Bonth square in Bhadrak on Tuesday.

The contraband is said to be worth Rs 14 Lakh as per the current market value.

One of the accused peddling the contraband (brown sugar) was identified as Ganesh Panda and belongs to Aranji village under Bhadrak Rural police limits.

As per reports, the sleuths apprehended the accused while patrolling in the area.

Similarly, another accused identified as Baikuntha Das from Basudevpur area of the district was also intercepted by the police from the same area while he was trafficking 14 bottles of country liquor on Tuesday.

Sources said the Excise Intelligence team of the Central Division in Cuttack has been closely monitoring Das’ activities since long and he was trapped in the police drag net on Tuesday.

Speaking about the haul, Jagdis Samal, Inspector of Excise Intelligence, Central Division said, “We have arrested Ganesh Panda across the LIC office at Bonth square during patrolling and seized brown sugar worth Rs 14 lakh from his possession. Panda was arrested earlier last year too.”

“Another accused had also been rounded up from the same place today while carrying 15 liters of country liquor and he was forwarded to court as well,” Samal added.
