In a major crackdown, a massive haul of brown sugar weighing around 10.6 kg and cost around Rs 11 crore was seized from Phuladi area in Balasore on Friday.

As many as six persons, including the kingpin from Madhya Pradesh were arrested.

The police have also seized Rs 20000 cash, two motorcycles, and five mobile phones from their possession. 

“Balasore police seized over 10 Kg of brown sugar during a major crackdown. The seized drug is estimated to be worth about Rs 11 crore. A team led by Balasore SP seized the narcotics,” said IG (Eastern Range) Himanshu Lal.

Lal further added, “The SP had received a tip-off about it on October 27 after which a team was formed to nab the drug peddlers. Among the accused, Ayub was the kingpin and hails from Madhya Pradesh. This is the biggest-ever seizure of brown sugar by Odisha police till now. Indeed, this is a huge achievement as the quantity of seized narcotics is huge as well as its market value is high.”

Applauding the entire team, Lal said the entire team did a commendable job. “Brown sugar is dangerous for individuals as well as their families. People in millions are suffering from drug menace. Our mission is to ensure seizing maximum brown sugar as we can and we are giving high efforts for it.”

The police have launched a further investigation to trace the links of the brown sugar smugglers. We can ascertain more details about the network only after interrogation.
