Brown Sugar Worth Over Rs 1 Cr Seized On Cuttack Outskirts; Notorious Drugs Peddler Arrested

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch on Monday informed that a most wanted drugs peddler, identified as Siba Prasad Das of Jatni area has been arrested following a raid near Pahal square of NH-16 under Khordha district yesterday.

The STF officials have also recovered brown sugar weighing 1227 gms worth over Rs 1 crore from the possession of the drugs peddler. A motorcycle, a mobile phone and other incriminating materials have also been seized from his possession.

Senior STF officials said accused Siba was absconding since January 1 in connection with another case. Brown sugar weighing over 3 kg, Rs 65.32 lakh, 3 pistols, 7 magazines, 43 rounds of ammunition were seized in that case.

“The accused Siba Prasad Das is involved in six criminal cases in various parts of Odisha. A case under section 21(c), 29 of NDPS Act 1985 has been registered against the accused and he will be produced before the court,” the STF said in a release.

Since 2020, STF has seized more than 49 kg of Brown Sugar/Heroin in the ongoing special drive against narcotic drugs. Over 89 quintals of Ganja/Marijuana have been seized and 123 drug dealers/peddlers have been arrested in separate cases so far.
