A youth was allegedly hacked to death following a group clash at Sundarapada area in Bhubaneswar late on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Dipu Rout, a local resident.

As per reports, Dipu and his friends were arranging a New Year's eve party. They indulged in heated exchanges with some local youths of the neighbouring area for some reason. Later, some of them armed with sharp weapons and sticks attacked Dipu and his friends and injured them badly.

Dipu was admitted to the nearby hospital in critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Informed, Airfield police station officials rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

Tension ran high in the area following the incident as local people staged a road blockade near Sundarpada demanding Rs 20,00,000 compensation for the family members of the deceased and the arrest of the murderer within 24 hours.

"Our New Year party has been spoiled as one of us has been killed by the miscreants. Police are yet to take any steps to arrest the culprit. We demand arrest of the culprit within 24 hours and compensation of Rs 20,000,00 to the family members of the deceased," said an agitator.
