A local BJD leader from Kantamal area in Boudh district allegedly pulled a gun on a government Junior Engineer (JE) and threatened to kill him on Wednesday for not clearing a bill.

Santanu Kumar Thaty, is a veteran BJD leader from Baragochha village and president of Boudh District Farmers’ Cell. Thaty on Wednesday went to the residence of Kantamal Block JE Smruti Ranjan Sethy along with some of his supporters where he allegedly threatened to kill him.

They allegedly brandished a gun at Sethy and scolded him with filthy language before thrashing him. Later, the group left the JE's residence when some neighbours of Sethy reached the spot at the spur of the moment.

Sethy lodged a complaint against Thaty in Kantalmal police station wherein he alleged that the BJD leader and his aides acted as goons and attacked him with sharp edged weapon.

As per police sources, Thaty and his associates are absconding after the incident.

“We have started an investigation based on the complaint,” said Kantamal IIC Tapaswini Kanhara.
