In a significant development, the Badagada police have arrested Shikhar Jena, the brother of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) corporator Sridhar Jena, on charges of issuing death threats while brandishing a gun over a land possession dispute.
The arrest was made following a formal complaint lodged against Shikar, accusing him of using intimidation tactics to seize the land unlawfully.
According to police sources, Shikhar Jena allegedly threatened individuals with a gun, warning them of dire consequences if they did not comply with his demands.
The complaint further states that he attempted to forcefully occupy a piece of land by instilling fear among the rightful owners. Acting on the complaint, the Badagada police under Commissionerate Police initiated an investigation, gathering substantial evidence before proceeding with the arrest.
Shikhar Jena has been booked under several sections of the law, including those related to organised crime and the Arms Act.
The charges indicate serious legal implications, as possession and use of firearms for intimidation fall under stringent legal provisions. Law enforcement officials have stated that they are further probing his past activities to determine if he has been involved in similar offenses before.
Following his arrest, Shikhar has been produced before the court, where legal proceedings against him have commenced. The police are also expected to interrogate him further to uncover more details about the incident. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
No comments could be obtained from the BJD corporator or his family members of the allegations and the arrest.
