Arrested In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal claimed to have busted an inter-state racket involved in the production and distribution of banned narcotics heroin. Sources said 13 kilograms of processed heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs 65 crore, has been seized following an operation spanning for three days.

The West Bengal STF informed that a total of six persons including two each from Odisha, West Bengal and Manipur have been arrested in connection with the seizure. Cash worth Rs 20 lakh has also been recovered from the accused persons.  Sources said both the accused from Odisha are residents of Jaleswar Block in Balasore district.

In a release, the STF West Bengal said that the conduits in the racket used to procure raw material from Manipur, which was processed in a house at Sripally, under Bardhman Sadar Police limits of Purba (East) Bardhman district of West Bengal. Later the processed heroin used to be supplied to various parts in West Bengal and Odisha.

“During the operation a total of 13 Kilograms of processed heroin (of estimated cost of Rs 65 crore), Rs. 20,10,100 cash, crude heroin and other chemical ingredients used for processing of heroin have been seized,” the WB STF said in the release.

Apart from the heroin, cash counting machine, weighing machine, sealing machine and other articles have also been recovered. It is pertinent to mention here that the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch had recently arrested SK Lalu alias Nazimuddin, a wanted inter-state drugs trafficker, from Baranaldaha under Palasipara police limits in West Bengal with the assistance of the local police.

SK Lalu was wanted in connection with a case pertaining to the seizure of 1.43 kg brown sugar from one S K Safikul alias Khokan who was arrested on October 20, 2021. Khokan, who hails from Murshidabad, was arrested by the STF while he was trying to strike a narcotics deal near Tangi.
