Big drug haul in Odisha: Brown sugar worth over Rs 2cr seized, 3 held 

The special task force (STF) has seized 2.058 kg brown sugar worth nearly Rs 2.05 crore following a raid near AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and arrested three drug peddlers. 

Those arrested have been identified as Bhagirathi Bhatt alias Bhaga of Ranasinghpur, Biswajit Nayak of Chittalpur and Chandan Mallik of Raghunath Nagar. Apart from the brown sugar, other incriminating materials were also recovered from their possession.

The STF registered a case under relevant sections and forwarded all the accused to the court of District and Sessions cum special judge, Bhubaneswar.  

"Special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing. Since 2020, STF has seized more than 54 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine and more than 103 quintals of ganja/marijuna, 750 gram opium and arrested more than 150 drug dealers/peddlers," the STF said in a statement.
