A woman was allegedly gang raped by three youths for objecting to a noisemaking birthday celebration in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, police sources said on Wednesday.  

The incident which took place in Mancheswar police jurisdiction on December 11 (Sunday) came to light after the survivor lodged a complaint on Monday. 

On the basis of her complaint, the police have arrested the three accused and forwarded them to court. 

The accused have been identified as Debashis Pradhan (24), Deepak Kumar Sethy (24) and Swadhin Kumar Nayak (22). 

As per a press release issued by Mancheswar police, Deepak organised a party to celebrate his birthday on December 11 evening. As the accused were making loud noise, the survivor who lives in the locality raised objection. 

However, angry over the complaint, the accused trio dragged the woman into a house and took turns to rape her. The woman’s husband was absent from home at that time. 

When the victim screamed for help, some neighbours rushed to the area and rescued her from clutches of the accused. However, before leaving the place, the accused trio reportedly threatened to kill the victim. 

The victim and her husband lodged a case at Mancheswar police station against the accused and some of their associates. On the basis of the complaint, a case under Section 294, 323, 354, 354 (A)/488/376/511, 506/34 of IPC was registered and the trio was arrested.

The accused have confessed to their crime during questioning. They have been forwarded to court.
