A day after rescuing two minor girls, who had been abducted by their private tutor in Bhubaneswar, from Sambalpur, the Badagada police on Thursday put the teacher under arrest and handed over the girls to their parent’s custody.

An official at the Badagada police station said the private tutor, identified as Gopalkrushna Badatia, has been arrested and booked under IPC Sections pertaining to sexual assault and kidnap, along with the POCSO Act on Thursday.

On Sunday, Badatia who used to give tuitions to the two girls, who are sisters, abducted them from their residence in Badagada by taking advantages of their family members’ absence at home.

Because of the involvement of two minor girls, the police took the matter seriously and launched an all out investigation to trace them.

During the course of the investigation, the police learnt that Badatia along with the two sisters was staying in a rented accommodation in Ainthapali area in Sambalpur district. The local police raided the place, rescued the girls and detained Gopal. A team from Badgada police station brought them back on Wednesday.

Upon reaching at the Badagada police station, the girls’ statements were recorded under 161 of CrPC and subsequently, under 164 of CrPC in the court. Thereafter, they were handed over to their family through the Child Welfare Committee. Badatia was subsequently put under arrest and booked under the relevant charges for the crime.
