Bhubaneswar MCA girl student suicide: CP arrests deceased's boyfriend

A day after a girl student of a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar was found hanging inside her rented room in Acharya Vihar, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested the deceased's boyfriend.

Satya Prakash Das was arrested on the basis of a purported suicide note left by deceased Ashrita Senapati, an MCA student.

As per police sources, the couple belonged to the same village under Bhadrak’s Tihidi block and were in love with each other since 2014. However, their relationship turned sour in 2019 with the entry of another boy in their life, whom Das suspected to have been romantically involved with Ashrita. 

Sources said Das had been mentally harassing her since then accusing her of betrayal in love. On the fateful night of July 4, Das went to Ashrita’s room and allegedly tortured her both mentally and physically over the same issue, after which she hanged herself later in the night.

The body of the deceased was found hanging inside her rented room in Acharya Vihar area on July 4. The girl is suspected to have ended her life by suicide. The police have launched a probe in connection with the case after recovering the body of the deceased. A suspected suicide note was recovered from the spot.

As per reports, Ashrita hailed from Bhadrak district and it was five months back that she started staying in the rented accommodation in Bhubaneswar where her body was found.
