Soumyajit Mohapatra, the boyfriend of Sweta Utkal Kumari, has moved the Orissa High Court and filed an anticipatory or pre-arrest bail application apprehending his arrest in connection with the suicide of the woman software professional.

The 25-year-old, who has still not appeared at the police station and reportedly asked for some more time through his counsel, has filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Orissa High Court.

However, the whereabouts of Soumyajit, against whom the deceased's family members have brought serious charges of blackmail and abetment to suicide, is yet to be ascertained.

The post-mortem report of Sweta, whose body was found hanging in her apartment in Sailashree Vihar last week, confirmed that her death was caused by asphyxiation. Her body did not have any wounds anywhere else.

Yesterday, the family members of the deceased met Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and shared the details of Sweta’s four friends, who knew about her relationship with Soumyajit.

Sweta, a resident of Bhadrak, who worked with a reputed IT company in Bhubaneswar, was believed to be in a relationship with Soumyajit. Though the family members of the deceased alleged that she took the extreme step after being blackmailed by her boyfriend, Soumyajit has not yet given any comments in response to the allegations.

Under these circumstances, the reason behind Sweta’s suicide has been still shrouded in mystery.

In another development, WhatsApp messages exchanged between Sweta and her boyfriend’s mother have surfaced. In the chat, Sweta mentioned that Soumyajit lived with her after quitting his job.

She also mentioned that Soumyajit wanted to return the dresses and shoes she had gifted to him.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police informed that they have questioned Soumyajit in connection with the suicide case.
