Carrying out further investigation into the gangrape of two minor girls near Patia railway station, the Bhubaneswar Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested the second accused in the case.

The accused, identified as Bulu Mallik, was arrested from Padanpur area in Banki. Sources said Mallik was trying to escape from the state when he was nabbed.

Earlier, police had arrested the prime accused, Kanhu, in connection with the gangrape incident of two minor girls which had sent shockwaves in the capital city.

“We have arrested one more accused after three joint teams were formed. After getting credible information, we carried out a raid and nabbed him,” said a senior official.

Soon the statements of both the survivors will be recorded as per the procedure, the official added.

After committing the crime, the accused had run out of money and was hiding near Nandankanan and nearby areas for past couple of days.

As per reports, the two accused had abducted the two girls from Patia Railway Station area on January 16. Later, they tied them up with a rope and raped them for the whole night. The survivors were released the next day and the matter came to light only after they narrated the ordeal to their parents.

Later, with the help of Childline officials, the mother of one of the survivors lodged a complaint with the GRP.
