Amid the rising crimes in Bhubaneswar, another kidnapping incident has been reported from the Capital city on Wednesday. A college student was allegedly kidnapped and tortured by miscreants for Rs 7000.

The incident comes close on the heels of last month’s kidnapping of a businessman’s son in the State capital over ransom demands.

Sivaji Sarkar, a Plus 3 first year student living in the Chunukoli slum under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar, was reportedly kidnapped from Patia area on Tuesday.

As per reports, Sarkar somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the miscreants. Narrating his ordeal, the college student said he was at the Patia petrol pump when four miscreants whisked him away after covering his face with a black cloth. They then took him to an abandoned house.

He further claimed that after kidnapping him, the miscreants brutally tortured him and also demanded Rs 7000 for his release. Sarkar claimed he has lodged a complaint at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station. However, the police are yet to trace the accused.

Police statement could not be obtained in connection with the case.

Last week, the Commissionerate Police had rescued a Bhubaneswar-based businessman’s son who was abducted by a professional kidnappers’ gang in a precision-guided operation that lasted for about 36 hours.

The youth, identified as Ishan Agarwal, was abducted by unidentified miscreants from Laxmisagar area in the Capital city on January 31. The kidnappers had subsequently made a ransom demand of Rs 30 lakh from Ishan’s father.
