In the latest development in the case of a lady staff of a Bhubaneswar-based private engineering college siphoning off college money, the police on Tuesday said her boyfriend admitted to have received Rs97 lakh from her and spent Rs 50 lakh on online gambling.

The Commissionerate of Police has brought Bikas Kumar, the lady accountant’s boy friend, from Jharkhand to Bhubaneswar on transit remand while Tomando police are interrogating him.

During interrogation, Bikas Kumar divulged it that he had spent Rs 50 lakh of the total Rs 97 lakh he had received from his girlfriend.

Interestingly, Bikas Kumar happened to be an ex-student of the engineering college located at Tomando where the lady accountant worked.

Notably, the female employee of the engineering college was arrested on April 29 on charge of embezzling college money to the tune of Rs 97 lakh.

Then ACP, Prakash Chandra Pal had informed that Bikas Kumar had succeeded in coaxing the female employee to send him some financial assistance on several alibis including to meet his father’s treatment cost.

The lady had transferred the entire sum digitally, he had stated.

Later, she had revealed everything before the College authorities who then initiated an audit and lodged a complaint against the lady staff at Tomando police station after finding her revelation to be true. On the basis of the complaint, the police had arrested her.
