The recent loot of cash from an ATM in Bhubaneswar where criminals had uprooted the machine had sent the Commissionerate Police in a tizzy. Reason, it was the first-of-its crime that was reported in the capital city even though there were instances of similar crimes in other States.

The Commissionerate Police has managed to nab two robbers having Bangladeshi connection. Code named ‘Mission Impossible’, a dedicated team managed to catch hold of the robbers who were planning a similar ATM loot in Bengaluru.

Twin City Police Commissioner, Saumendra Priyadarshi, said “It was code named operation impossible as only a small CCTV clip of the miscreants inside the ATM was available.”

According to Priyadarshi, a detailed examination of ATM loot cases in other parts of the country was done. Later, it was found that Delhi police had arrested some criminals involved in loot of cash from ATM in a similar fashion in Goa.

The Commissionerate Police then had got some information regarding the involvement of criminals from Bangladesh in the case.

“After some leads, we dispatched our teams to Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru and searched over 30 hotels. Subsequently, we managed to nab two robbers including a Bangladeshi national. Four others are still absconding,” said the Twin City Police Commissioner.

Divulging details, Priyadarshi said it was a challenging investigation as the robbers had left no traces behind. It has been ascertained that the criminals from Bangladesh used to escape through various routes after committing such crimes.

It has been found that the criminals did not keep cash with themselves after such heist. Mostly they used to transfer the cash to their mastermind. Besides, the criminals used to communicate among themselves in the most restricted manner. Hence, getting technical leads usually gets tough, Priyadarshi added.
