Bharatpur Girl Death Case: 3 Youths, Including Absconding Boyfriend Of Deceased Held

Investigating the death of a girl at Tarini Basti in Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar, the twin city Commissionerate Police has arrested three youths, including the deceased's absconding boyfriend on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, police sources said the girl killed herself by hanging from a ceiling fan after having a quarrel with her boyfriend identified as Biswajit Jena. Biswajit along with his two friends have been kept at the Bharatpur Police Station. 

Notably, the 23-year-old girl, Surekha Palei of Chapamanika area under Brahmagiri block of Puri district was found dead under a mysterious condition from a room in Tarini Basti under Bharatpur police station limits in the Capital City on January 10 morning. 

Police sources added Surekha and her boyfriend Biswajit and two of his friends had organised a feast at the latter’s room in Tarini Basti in the night of January 9.

After having dinner when Biswajit and his friends were sleeping in a room, Surekha went to another room after locking Biswajit’s room from outside. She then killed herself by hanging from the ceiling fan.

When Biswajit and his friends learned about her suicide, they broke into the room and recovered her body. The trio later abandoned Surekha’s dead body in her room in Tarini Basti and fled the spot.

Sources said, Surekha was in love with Biswajit and even proposed him for marriage earlier in the day on January 9. When he refused her proposal, she had even cut her wrist the same day. However, the injury was not deep. 

Biswajit had reportedly absconded to his native place Nayagarh.

Biswajit and one of his two friends have been taken to his room during which they explained the details of the incident to the police. They will be forwarded to the court later in the day.

However, the exact reason behind the arrest of Biswajit and his two friends is still unclear.
