Even though technology has made our lives easier, it brings in several challenges. Nowadays, cyberspace has also become haven to mischief elements who are always on the prowl to dupe people by offering lucrative offers.

National Informatics Centre (NIC) has warned people about a fake SMS with job offer masquerading in the name of NIC. Following an internal investigation, the NIC team found that the fake SMS was not sent from NIC’s infrastructure.

After coordinating with telecom service providers to investigate, it was ascertained that the fake SMS had been sent through a private SMS service provider’s infrastructure.

“Considering the fact that the fake SMS was misusing NIC’s name and could also be involving a potential financial fraud, NIC promptly reported the incident to CERT-In and also registered a complaint with Law enforcement agencies for identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of this fake SMS,” reported PIB.

It has now been advised that people should be cautious of such fake SMS and report @cert-in.org.in and https://cybercrime.gov.in.

Meanwhile, Cert-In immediately coordinated with concerned intermediary for the take down of the fraudulent URL to prevent further misuse.
