Bar dancers in Bhubaneswar lament torture by bar owners

“I have been working for the last two years as a bar dancer in Bhubaneswar. Recently I left the job and when I went to get my payment, the owner forced us to get involved in immoral acts,” said a bar dancer. The allegation speaks volumes about the harassment that the bar dancers are subjected to in Bhubaneswar.

“The band leaders are engaged in illegal acts. They forcibly send girls with guests. A hotel room has been booked for this purpose. My payment was subsequently cleared even though I refused to get involved in such dirty work. But my friend was beaten up for refusing,” alleged the bar dancer.

Another bar dancer said, “The owner forced me to go with the guests. I have been working for the last seven months. The owner asks us to go with the guests who shower money.”

The bar dancers alleged that such kind of torture increased when they asked for their payments. “My friend was beaten up and she was forced to lock herself in a toilet to save herself,” alleged a bar dancer.

They also alleged that no action is being taken by the police. Meanwhile, police officials could not be contacted over the matter.
